About CDOE

Centre For Distance & Online Education (CDOE) (formerly known as The Directorate of Distance Education) was established on 3rd March 1976 in the University of Jammu. The University of Jammu was established in 1969 vide Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir (established in 1948). With the establishment of Directorate of Distance Education, the University of Jammu within 7 years of its establishment became a dual mode university from a conventional University.

The Centre For Distance & Online Education is located in the main New Campus of the University which houses multiple academic and administrative facilities, including hostels, guest houses, a central library, a gymnasium, and more. The Directorate of Distance Education is located near the Law School and General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex.

Programs & Infrastructure

The Directorate offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Diploma programmes to cater to diverse learners. The enrolment has grown significantly from under 100 students at inception to about 12,000 students in 2022-23. It has 11 permanent teachers and also employs visiting and contractual faculty.

The Directorate follows a multimedia approach to learning, providing the latest self-learning material in physical and digital formats. It also has a well-stocked library with about 37,000 books, periodicals, and access to e-resources through UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium. Additionally, a computer laboratory with internet and Wi-Fi is available for learners.
